Call them poem or spoken word or Hip-Hop nights, but the talent showcased by each of the presenters who steps up to the stage to share is hard to just let go for what happens is spontaneously spectacular attracting all races and ages for the brilliant art always put together.
"Fusion360" formerly known as "Open-Mic" or "Milege" shows' organizers who are usually either entertain revelers of all ages in all sorts of art from poems, mastered Hip-Hop brought out in a form of communication (slow talk) miming; with or without live instruments. As the Milege show goes free for every Thursday night at the Makerere University's guest house, the Open Mic happens every first Tuesday of every month for 5,000 UgShs at the Ugandan National Museum.
Various artists who have graced the monthly Open Mic show ranged from Saint Nellysade, The Undercover Brothers, Benezeri, and last but not least our very own WAKE whose piece titled as CHANGE went like.......
CHANGE
By WAKE (POTTER'S CLAY)
Everybody keeps screaming we need change but today I want you to take note
Most people find this whole change thing strange, they’d rather keep taking the notes
Individually we are still glued to the same spot, the same post
Our comfort zone where it’s all good as long as our coast is clear but what is the real cost
Real talk though, not everybody wants the change
I mean you must have heard the rich say, ‘go ahead keep the change’
Now this could be a tip to you but it is also a clue
That ultimately change is like Uganda Telecom, it’s all about you
Now I want you to picture a buyer and a seller with no change
I said picture a buyer and a seller both without change
If neither of them is willing to lose their own share of the bargain then they will look for the change
Get a boda boda man without change
He usually won’t be willing to let you go with part of his earned transport fare so he’ll look for the change
Get a taxi that has a conductor without change
If you are not willing to let go of part of your hard earned income then you better give him the change
That goes to show that without change (status quo) some will continue to lose while others gain
But if you think the status quo will change itself then you do so in vain
So I ask, what have you done to change the situation about which you complain
Except just sit there in silence
You are the change of the nation, you are the change of the nation, and you are the change of the nation
But if we just sit there in silence, then I’m afraid the only nations we can change are our own imaginations.
